Michigan football: Wolverines leading Michigan State for 4-star, in-state recruit

Both Michigan and the Michigan State football programs are fighting to keep this four-star, two-way recruit in the state of Michigan.

This recruiting season has gone fairly well for Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines.

Since Harbaugh brought in his tandem of Maurice Linguist and Mike Macdonald to revamp their struggling defense, the Maize and Blue have been able to secure some studs in the recruiting process as well.

Michigan football landed 2022 five-star cornerback Will Johnson and Texas Tech graduate transfer quarterback Alan Bowman on Sunday. The Wolverines also received the commitment from four-star receiver Tay’shawn Trent on Wednesday afternoon.

Now,  2022 West Bloomfield four-star athlete Dillon Tatum is leaning toward taking his talents to Ann Arbor as well.

Four-star recruit Dillon Tatum leaning toward Michigan over Michigan State

Tatum announced his top 10 schools in early January of this year and the list included home-state schools Michigan and Michigan State, as well as Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Baylor and USC.

Tatum (5-11, 190 pounds) is ranked the No. 259 overall recruit, No. 16 athlete and the No. 5 recruit in the state of Michigan, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Tatum was a running back for the majority of his high school career but starting making waves on the defensive side of the ball as well, as a defensive back. According to his Twitter account, Tatum is expected to announce more cuts to his list this weekend.

Michigan football previously signed Tatum’s teammate and back-field partner four-star running back Donovan Edwards during last year’s early signing period. They also grabbed two freshmen from West Bloomfield, defensive back Makari Paige and linebacker Cornell Wheeler.

As of right now, 247Sports has Michigan in the lead to land Tatum over its in-state rival.
