NBA commissioner Adam Silver has reportedly apologized to Toronto Raptors team president Masai Uriji.

No one has forgotten about the 2019 NBA Finals when the Toronto Raptors somehow upset the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, no one has forgotten about the post-game incident where Raptors team president Masai Uriji had an altercation with California Deputy Sheriff Alan Strickland, who pushed him several times.

Following that incident, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made some questionable comments during an interview with HBO, including saying Uriji was partly at fault for what happened. In a conversation with Michael Granger of Sports Net, Silver revealed he has apologized to Uriji for what he perviously had to say.

“When I watch that last bit of the interview, in light of what we now know, I would love to take those words back,” Silver told Granger in their interview. “Masai and I at this point have probably talked about that night 100 times since then. He has my full and unequivocal support.

“But I apologize to Masai for what I said in that interview. Believe me, when I look at that now, I cringe when I watch it.”

Silver went on to add that he and Uriji have gone on to speak about 100 times over the incident on the Warriors home floor. In a video of what happened, it’s clear that Uriji was just trying to make his way onto the hardwood to celebrate with his team. However, Strickland shoved him multiple times, even as the Toronto president was trying to show him his credentials.

It was an awful look for Strickland, who even tried to make himself the victim in this situation. Everyone now knows that Uriji did nothing wrong, and this now includes Silver.
